MIPLC Students Selected as Members of the African Good Governance Network
Zecharias Fassil Berhe (Ethiopia) and Ugreson Maistry (South Africa), participants in the MIPLC LL.M. program 2007/08, have recently been appointed members of the African Good Governance Network (AGGN) initiated and sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The AGGN was founded in 2007 and is designed as a long-term scholarship and education program. The purpose of this network is to help prepare young African students or graduates for their roles as future leaders in establishing democracy, the rule of law and prosperity in their home countries. On an annual basis, German universities are invited to propose candidates from their students and alumni, a total of ten of which are accepted as new members each year.
The MIPLC is very happy that both candidates have been accepted. "We are proud of Ugreson and Zecharias and trust that they will make the best possible use of the support they are provided by this network," says Professor Straus, Chairman of the Managing Board. "Their acceptance also underlines the special relevance that IP issues have in the context of developing countries."
