To mark the 15th anniversary of the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC), in 2018 we created the MIPLC Joseph Straus Distinguished Service Award, recognizing Professor Joseph Straus' vision and leadership in founding the MIPLC as a joint endeavour of the Max Planck Society, Augsburg University, The George Washington University (GWU) and the Technical University of Munich in 2003.

We are proud to present to you the first recipient of the award, Professor Martin J. Adelman, who, as a representative of GWU, worked tirelessly with Professor Straus to set up the MIPLC. In addition, Marty Adelman has taught more than a dozen generations of MIPLC students and still represents GWU on the MIPLC's Scientific Advisory Board.
