To graduate from the MIPLC, students must acquire 60 credit points (CP).
This preparatory module is designed to ease students back into the academic environment and provide an introduction to core concepts. It helps ensure a smooth transition into more advanced coursework.
There are five Basic Modules required for all students: Copyright Law, Patent Law, Trademark & Unfair Competition Law, Innovation and Competition Law, and Data Law. These modules provide foundational knowledge delivered by expert faculty in these essential fields.

There are five elective modules that allow students to focus on specific areas of interest: Advanced IP Law, The Law of Digital Services and Markets, Digital Technology Regulation, Innovation and Technology Management, and Regulation of the Life Sciences. Each of these elective modules is made up of a diverse array of individual courses, offering students the flexibility to tailor their studies to their professional goals.

The Master's thesis is a key component of the LL.M. program, offering students a unique opportunity to dive deeply into a topic of their choice, aligned with their interests and career goals. Research begins early in the program, giving students access to the vast resources of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, including its extensive library, databases, and the expertise of senior research fellows. This world-class research environment supports students as they explore complex ideas and contribute original insights, marking the final step toward completing the program.

The academic year at MIPLC comprises two semesters of study, culminating in the preparation of the Master's thesis. In addition to rigorous academic pursuits, students have the opportunity to enrich their learning experience through an optional internship, fostering practical skills and real-world application.
Furthermore, MIPLC is committed to providing comprehensive student services throughout the academic journey. The program commences with a Welcome Day, fostering a sense of community, and concludes with a Graduation Ceremony where diplomas are awarded and graduates celebrate their achievements alongside classmates and families.

Students have the option to complete an internship. MIPLC's extensive network of sponsors includes law firms, corporations, and IP institutions. Additionally, through the Pan-European Seal Training Program, selected students can secure prestigious, one-year traineeships at the European Patent Office (EPO) or the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The internship offers an excellent opportunity to apply newly gained knowledge to real-world practice and connect with potential employers.
